Our Engagement

It was a warmth Saturday night of 26th March 2011 when I called Khai to tell her that I would be late (as usual, hehehe)  for a 6:30 mass at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, City Hall, Singapore.

During the homily, I asked her to kee
p the tickets for the Lion King Musical Show at Marina Bay Sands Theatre. She was surprised! She really wanted to watch this musical show ever since she had seen the advertisement.

After the mass, we rushed to MBS as we only had 30 minutes to be there because the late comers would not be entertained-you need to wait for the break before we could enter. I asked Uncle (taxi driver) to drop us at MBS Hotel Lobby due to traffic jam. We ran from MBS hotel to MBS Theatre, just like finalists of the Amazing Race and we were lucky enough to manage to get in time. I thought the show would run only for less than 2 hours but to my sur
prise it lasted for 2 ½ hours. During the entire show, Karen was so happy and amazed. But me? I was not comfortable and not in focus because my mind was on the proposal (how am I going to do it…or what would be the reaction of Karen etc…). These were the few questions that entered in my mind.

Yes, finally the show ended. Again, I told Karen that we needed to rush to the MBS Observation Deck (this was really the amazing race night
J) for it was included in the package. Actually kinabahan ako na makita nya na may hotel accommodation (she actually did but she ignored it).  She even asked me “Open pa ba yun late na ,until what time ba open yun” I just ignore her question, I just told her that we need to go first to 35th Floor to get the pass; she just followed my instructions innocently. From the lift floor lobby, I told her to wait for me there. In a few minutes, I called her to run to Room No. 3550 as we did not  have enough time to go to the observation deck (drama). As she entered the room she was surprised and run to me and hug me…

A soft instrumental music covered the room (IKAW), and a dozen of red and pink roses scattered on the floor, while LCD screen with the presentation was playing. I was standing at the corner with the big smile-as always. The first words that I heard from Karen was " Bebei naman eh, sinurprise mo ko and thank you". I told her to sit down, be comfortable and we watched together. Presentation was all about from the day we first met, the moment we shared and how our relationship has grown u
p to the present. She was teary eyed (roughly for 30 mins) and finally the presentation went to the final song which was "MAGMULA NGAYON" by Ogie Alcasid, I got down on my knee, took her right hand (dapat left hand pla hehehe nenerbyos na kse), took the RING and asked her “Will you marry me?” She was crying (me too) And finally(buti na lng)… She said YES.

POST Engagement Party
Without Karen’s knowledge, I asked Ate Laarni and Johanne to be with us at MBS. Although both of them also didn't know that I was proposing to Karen (as far as I knew). They had waited for more than 3 hours at Esplanade hehehe when I finally called them to come-over to our room. I was sure they were also happy for Karen. We ordered some food and had some simple celebration that night. Ended the night with our smiles.
